ALDI is an international retailer with German roots with over 100 years of history, and more than 10,000 stores around the world. ALDI was first launched in the China market in April 2017 through a digital foray in the form of a cross-border e-commerce store on Tmall, bringing high quality handpicked products from around the world. Today, not only does ALDI offer up products much loved around the world, it will also start offering locally sourced products to meet the needs of Chinese consumers.
Products available at ALDI will include the popular and delicious beef and fresh milk imported directly from Australia. In addition, as a tribute to its German legacy, ALDI will also offer the German favourite pork knuckle with sauerkraut and roast potato. Other products within the Ready-to-Eat category include the exciting fusion Sichuan style spicy crayfish salad and the Berliner Bao – German sausage with sauerkraut in a traditional Chinese steam bun.

To keep up with Chinese consumers’ dynamic lifestyles, ALDI will also offer delicious choices of ice cream imported from Australia as well as exclusive locally produced flavours such as black sesame and ginger with white chocolate. In addition, there will be plenty of ALDI’s all-time favourite – wine. Among the collection of wine offered at ALDI is the Maison De La Rougerie Bordeaux Supérieur AOC, harvested from one of the most prestigious vineyards in the Génissac village in France. Similarly, on the theme of keeping with ALDI tradition, customers can enjoy weekly “Super Savers”, a collection of fresh products offered at great prices.
ALDI’s two pilot stores will be located in the Jing’an and Minhang districts and will offer a carefully curated range across 15 categories including both locally sourced and imported products. They are positioned as pilot stores, where retail approaches will be trialed and adjusted according to data and feedback from customers. This new store format has been customised and tailored specifically for the China market to better understand and interact with Chinese consumers. The stores are designed by Landini Associates, the same interior design team that designed the Fresh Concept in ALDI’s stores in Australia.
Both stores will offer an integrated online to offline retail solution to create a hassle-free shopping experience. Chinese consumers can soon purchase ALDI products on Tmall, through ALDI’s WeChat mini-program, and in its pilot stores.
