Celebrating the new year traditionally means indulging in a host of new things: new clothes, new goals, new year wishes and all-new resolutions. This Chinese New Year, ALDI CHINA continued this age-old custom by welcoming the Spring Festival with a wealth of new offerings and surprises for our customers to ring in the Year of the Rat.
ALDI’s Four Surprise Gifts
First Surprise – ALDI Chinese New Year Hamper
To help our customers show appreciation for their loved ones, we offered a limited edition Chinese New Year hamper for them to give to their family and friends. Presenting a hamper to someone dear to you is an act that originated in France, and we put an ALDI spin on it by filling the basket with some of our most popular products from around the world. Ideal for everyone from young to old, our hamper pleasantly surprised all those who received it during Spring Festival gatherings.
Second Surprise - ALDI Pudong Fortune Plaza Store opens
We now have more stores around Shanghai with the opening of our latest location at Pudong Fortune Plaza on 4 January 2020.
To introduce our newest store and celebrate Chinese New Year, we decorated the store with prosperity symbols and organised Spring Festival-themed activities. We set up a pop-up area with a wishing tree for people to hang their new year wishes on, gave out traditional paper cuttings and red envelopes containing coupons, and held interactive games for our consumers to win gifts.
We also offered customers opening-day deals on popular products and invited many influencers to livestream the event so more people can experience the atmosphere.

Third Surprise - ALDI Spring Festival Flag H5
We enabled consumers to join in our Chinese New Year celebrations right from their phones with the launch of our WeChat mini-game called ALDI Spring Festival Flag from 7 to 30 January. Each New Year flag represented one of our products and people played by shaking their phones to plant a flag and win prizes. The game also allowed players to receive new year wishes and delightful posters for them to share with their friends.
Fourth Surprise – Thanking our Customers with Gifts
To thank our customers for their support, we invited them to our Pudong Fortune Plaza Store on 11 January and gave out Chinese New Year gifts including coupons and mystery prizes. We also invited influencers to livestream the event via Weibo to let more people join in the festive atmosphere.
