In view of ALDI CHINA’s 2nd anniversary and World Environmental Day on 5th June, we are pleased to announce that our power needs in stores, warehouses, and offices are now fully covered by renewable energy.
Our goal is to minimise the ecological footprint of our corporate activities by lowering our greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring that the products we offer do not have a detrimental impact on the environment. We have set a long-term commitment to help keep global warming well below 2°C. This commitment has been submitted to and acknowledged by the Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi). By the end of 2025, the ALDI SOUTH Group aims to reduce the operational emissions (except supply chain production) of its sites globally by more than a quarter compared to 2016.
In China, by obtaining I-REC (International Renewable energy certificate) from the wind generator from Inner Mongolia, we cover all electricity power needed in our daily operation from renewable energy sources since the beginning of 2020. Purchasing renewable energy certificates allows us to invest in renewable energy projects the country where we operate, encourages the development of the renewable energy industry, reduces carbon emissions, and supports the local economy.

By changing our supply to renewable electricity, we reduced over 2750t of carbon dioxide emissions in 2020 alone, an equivalent of more than 85% of our annual carbon emissions.
Using renewable energy is essential in carbon reduction, and we will continue to look for solutions to achieve zero carbon emissions. We use LED lights, provide energy saving training to our employees and use low GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants for our refrigeration equipment. We aspire to be a responsible retailer, to ensure a more sustainable lifestyle is accessible to all our customers.
