Much of the world's cocoa and coffee is grown by small-scale farmers who face challenges in producing and marketing their crops. The industries face economic and operational limitations, along with social and environmental challenges, such as poor soil fertility management, aging tree stock, improper use of chemicals, deforestation, and poverty.
Several organisations, such as Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade, work with farmers to promote sustainable practices and will certify that cocoa or coffee products came from a farm that follows specific social and environmental standards. These standards include strict requirements for farming management, safe and healthy working conditions, abolition of child labor, and protection of the environment. We're committed to increasing the number of certified cocoa and coffee products available in our stores.
You can find Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, and UTZ certified products as part of our everyday offerings in our stores. We're proud to say that already, over 90% of our exclusive brands chocolate Moser Roth and Choceur, are made with certified sustainable cocoa. Over 60% of our exclusive brand coffee from Amaroy, Tizio, Expressi are made from the certified sustainable coffee bean. In addition, sustainable cocoa is often the preferred ingredient for other products such as cakes, biscuits, and breakfast products.
These products have easy-to-spot Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, or UTZ labels on the packaging. By buying these products, you help contribute to better farming practices, fight against the climate crisis, conserve our forests, protect the rights of farmers and workers, and improve their livelihoods.
Rainforest Alliance
ALDI CHINA proudly sources cocoa and coffee from Rainforest Alliance certified farms. The Rainforest Alliance works at the center of business, agriculture, and forests, towards a world where people and nature can thrive together. We know that our cocoa and coffee purchases help ensure cocoa and coffee are grown and harvested using environmentally and socially responsible methods. We continuously work to bring additional Rainforest Alliance certified products to our stores.

UTZ Certified
We support cocoa and coffee farming that protect forests, improve farmers’ livelihoods, promote human rights of farm workers, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis UTZ is now part of the Rainforest Alliance. The two organisations joined forces in 2018 to create a better future for people and nature. That's why you will see more and more Rainforest Alliance certification seals on our products. Just like the UTZ label, the Rainforest Alliance seal stands for farmers and companies working towards a world where people and nature thrive in harmony.
Fairtrade
Fairtrade connects producers, businesses, and consumers in a global system of sustainable, ethical trade; advocates for farmers to be appropriately compensated, and teaches them how to build sustainable businesses so they can be a positive influence for their community and environment.
Their Fairtrade Sourced Ingredient Mark indicates that the ingredient named on the tab has been sourced as Fairtrade, such as Fairtrade cocoa in chocolate bars, breakfast cereal, and biscuits. The white Mark indicates that the ingredient named on the tab has been sourced as Fairtrade, such as Fairtrade cocoa in a breakfast cereal. This is different from the black FAIRTRADE Mark, which signifies that all the ingredients that are available as Fairtrade are Fairtrade certified.
