The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and is the most recognized, widely-used and influential green building rating system in the world. LEED comprehensively assesses buildings in terms of site selection and transportation, sustainable sites, water usage efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation. LEED ID+C is a rating system applied to projects that are a complete interior fit-out. Buildings certified under this system provide consumers with high-quality indoor air for a long time and enjoy a quality experience with safe building materials and efficient equipment.

The LEED ID+C Gold-certified ALDI SuHeWan Mixc World store, located along Suzhou Creek, opened in October 2022. In line with its concept of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, ALDI SuHeWan Mixc World store adheres to energy-saving and environmentally friendly design and construction principles in many aspects, including energy, water and materials.

All items to be purchased as building materials first undergo a strict review to ensure that the recycled and local materials used in the project meet the performance requirements of building materials whilst reducing the energy consumption required for their transportation. To effectively reduce the energy consumption of the store when in operation, ALDI SuHeWan Mixc World store utilizes energy-saving lighting and high-efficiency HVAC equipment. The electricity consumption of lighting, sockets and air conditioning units are categorized and measured to facilitate timely adjustment of the operation plan according to the actual electricity consumption of each category. At the same time, the cold chain system utilizes a water-based system, with a corresponding refrigerant charge that is only 20% of the split system. In addition, ALDI requires refrigerants with a GWP (global warming potential) of less than 2,200 to reduce the environmental impact of store operations. In terms of water conservation, SuHeWan Mixc World uses water-saving sanitary ware, allowing indoor water consumption to be reduced by more than 45% compared to the LEED baseline. The in-store air ventilation system enables the maintenance of ideal interior temperature and humidity, whilst guaranteeing the flow of fresh air in the store, to ensure the comfort of all personnel. The five types of waste generated during the construction - paper, paperboard, glass, plastic and metal - are efficiently recycled, with a recycling conversion rate of over 80%, thereby realizing maximum recyclability of building materials.

ALDI has promoting and practicing agreen and low carbon concept as part its long-term development in China. Since 2020, ALDI has succeeded in achieving full renewable energy coverage for all electricity needs at its stores, warehouses and offices by obtaining International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) from domestic green energy generators. This initiative has also enabled ALDI CHINA to reduce its overall CO2 emissions by more than 20,000 tons over three years from 2020 to 2022 .To meet its carbon reduction goals, and yet another initiative to implement the use of green electric energy, ALDI is piloting the use of all-electric trucks for goods delivery from distribution centers to selected stores. In addition, ALDI is minimizing overall corporate carbon emissions through solutions such as the use of LED lights, training employees on energy conservation, and using refrigerants with low GWP (global warming potential) in refrigeration equipment.

With the ever increasing global attention to energy conservation and emission reduction, ALDI, as a responsible global retail company, will continue to promote sustainable development by investing in resource efficiency, zero carbon and environmental protection, and contribute to creating a better environment.
